A New Glimpse into the "Chromakopia" Universe
Tyler, the Creator has continued to tease his highly anticipated "Chromakopia" project. Set to drop on October 28th, the same day as Frank Ocean's birthday, "Chromakopia" has so far revealed the tracks "St. Chroma" and the newly released "NOID."
Unlike "St. Chroma," "NOID" is currently only available on YouTube. The music video follows a similar aesthetic to "St. Chroma," featuring Tyler as the main character, adorned in the signature face mask and horned haircut associated with the album. Ayo Edebiri co-stars, portraying a crazed fan whose presence intensifies Tyler's paranoia. Starting in black and white, the visual transitions to color towards the end, coinciding with the introduction of backing vocals.
Sonically, "NOID" mirrors the feeling of anxiety portrayed in the video. The track is characterized by building, harsh guitars and layered horns. Tyler samples Zambian musician Paul Ngozi throughout the song, delivering a single verse amidst the roughly three-minute offering.
In the lyrics, Tyler expresses his feelings of paranoia, rapping, "I loop around the block, eyes glued to the rearview / Rather double back than regret hearin’, ‘Pew, pew’ / Never trust a btch, if you good, they can trap you / So just strap it up ‘fore they fck around and strap you, b*tch."
