After a four-year hiatus, Skepta's Mains label made a triumphant return with its runway debut at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024.
Following the highly-anticipated Dover Street Market collaboration, Mains' runway show presented an expansive range of slick athleisure attire, sharp tailoring, and noteworthy collaborations with Beats, PUMA, and Timberland.
The debut show, referred to by Skepta as a "one-of-a-kind MAINS experience," transformed The Banking Hall in central London into a tennis court, complete with a turf runway, a massive Wimbledon-inspired scoreboard, and even a tennis net down the middle of the catwalk.
Inspired by Skepta's hometown of London, the collection elevated Mains' staple pieces while ensuring they remained highly wearable. British fabrics were carefully selected to update items like the Mains Drill Suit, which was crafted from raw silk. Sharply-tailored boucle bombers featured an embroidered sparkling 'M,' a design by Skepta himself. Mains also introduced a new line of leather accessories, including an original backpack, harness, and holdall.
The front row was graced with the presence of Louis Theroux, A$AP Ferg, Matthew Williams, Naomi Campbell, Clint419, and Stormzy. Models strutted down the runway in sporty pieces like Mains-branded tennis rackets, metallic tracksuits, and 3M Puma trainers. Statement tweed robes, Miami-inspired shirts, and mesh singlets also garnered attention.
Skepta ensured that the showcase was a family affair, with his brother JME walking the catwalk and joining Skepta and his daughter, River, for a celebratory end-of-show moment soundtracked by Enya. The collection was created with Skepta's close friends and family in mind, featuring denim jackets adorned with Skepta's own illustrations of Dalston, Miami, and New York, along with luxurious tracksuits that seemed custom-made for UK rap stars and close friends Headie One and K-Trap.
Chief designer Mikey Pearce and graphic designer Johnson Orchid played pivotal roles in bringing the collection to life, skillfully balancing luxury, sport, and lifestyle to deliver "the next evolution of MAINS."
Skepta stated in the show notes, "Today we leave our hearts on the table," while teasing that a follow-up collection would return next season, declaring, "MAINS is here to stay."
