Academy Award winners reunite for English-language adaptation of Kurosawa's classic crime thriller.
Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are joining forces once again, marking their fifth collaboration in the world of cinema. Teaming up with A24 and Apple TV+, the duo is set to recreate Akira Kurosawa's classic crime thriller, "High and Low." The original 1963 film, based on Ed McBain's novel "King's Ransom" and starring Toshiro Mifune, delves into the downfall of a businessman after a ransom payment is made to kidnappers.
Their cinematic journey together began in 2006 with "Inside Man," and now they're poised to create another compelling piece of cinema. While Apple is co-financing the project, it's worth noting that it doesn't fall under A24's recent multi-year deal with MAX. A24, alongside Escape Artists and Mandalay Pictures, will spearhead the development and production of the film. Alan Fox and Spike Lee will craft the script, with Lee also taking on the role of executive producer through his company, 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks. This collaboration also marks Washington's second project with Apple Original Films, following "The Tragedy of Macbeth," another A24 production.
While an official release date hasn't been announced yet, the film is already in the early stages of production. Keep an eye out for further updates on this exciting reunion between Washington and Lee.
