The Bob Marley biopic, "One Love," emerged triumphant over Sony's "Madame Web" at the box office.
Surpassing initial expectations of $30 million USD to $35 million USD, "One Love" raked in $27.7 million USD during the regular weekend and a total of $51 million USD over the six-day holiday period. Its success extended beyond domestic borders, earning an additional $29 million USD from 47 overseas territories, bringing its global total to $80 million USD against a $70 million USD production budget. Ziggy Marley, son of the legendary Bob Marley, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response to the film, stating, "My family and I are honored with the amazing response to 'Bob Marley: One Love.' Like my father's music, this movie is meant for the people, and his message of peace, love, and unity is clearly connecting with audiences around the world. We thank the people for embracing this film and in so doing helping to highlight the message of one love."
In contrast, "Madame Web," with a production budget of $80 million USD, fell far behind "One Love," earning $17.6 million USD during the regular weekend and $25.8 million USD during the six-day holiday, along with $25.7 million USD from 61 overseas territories. The film's lackluster performance was noted in comparison to "Morbius," which despite poor reviews, managed to earn $39.1 million USD during its opening weekend, according to Variety.
