Quincy Jones, the legendary music producer, composer, and arranger, passed away at the age of 91. His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that Jones died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones.
"Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones' passing," the family said in a statement. "And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him."
Jones' illustrious career spanned over seven decades, during which he produced some of the most iconic albums in music history. His collaborations with Michael Jackson, including "Off the Wall," "Thriller," and "Bad," are considered milestones in popular music. He also worked with legendary artists such as Donna Summer, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, and Sammy Davis Jr.
Jones' influence on popular culture is immeasurable. His ability to seamlessly blend genres and create innovative soundscapes revolutionized the music industry. One of his most iconic works is the soundtrack for the 1985 film "The Color Purple," which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score. The album, featuring a stellar cast including Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg, became a cultural phenomenon, with songs like "Miss Celie's Blues (Song of the Blues)" and "I Know You" resonating with audiences worldwide.
