Lil Wayne recently opened up about his disappointment at not being selected as the headliner for the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show in his hometown of New Orleans. The rapper revealed that he had originally been considered for the prestigious performance but was ultimately replaced by Kendrick Lamar.
During his Lil WeezyAna Fest, Wayne expressed his frustration, stating, "I told myself I wanna be on stage at the Super Bowl in front of my mom and I worked my a** off to get that position. It was ripped away from me." He emphasized that while the opportunity was taken from him, the love and support he receives from his fans is something that cannot be taken away.
Wayne previously shared his feelings about the snub on Instagram, acknowledging the emotional impact of the missed opportunity. “Forgive me for the delay. I had to get strength enough to do this without breaking. Thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the love and support out there. Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back.” He continued, “That hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. For just automatically mentally putting myself in that position, like someone told me that was my position.”
He added, “I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, and that platform in my city. It broke me. I’m just trying to put me back together. But, my God, how you all have helped me.”
He thanked his fans for their support and acknowledged the disappointment he experienced.
