Following the receipt of The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design and a collaborative project featuring GUINNESS, London-based brand LABRUM made a triumphant return to London Fashion Week. The showcase conveyed deep sentiments about Black culture and history.
For Spring/Summer 2024, designer Foday Dumbuya selected the grand Four Seasons hotel at Trinity Square, seating guests in a circular formation around a grand piano. The event was marked by the uplifting sounds of African artists celebrating the vibrancy of Black history. Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright opened the show, dressed in tonal patterned suits with teal underlayers. LABRUM's signature blend of casual and formal wear was prominent throughout the collection, characterized by bold blue, teal, green, and red hues.
Named "NOMOLI ODYSSEY," the collection exuded West African energy and paid homage to Sierra Leone's carved Nomoli figure, symbolizing good health and harvest. These figures were incorporated into classic trench coats and featured on chiseled face masks. Branch-like details adorned frayed shirts and headgear, while illustrated heads were sketched onto silk pieces.
UK rapper Unknown T walked the runway to debut LABRUM's collaboration with Netflix's Top Boy and Hackney Wick FC, which reimagined classic British tracksuits with monogram pyramids and intricate embroidery. Additionally, LABRUM surprised with a partnership with adidas, applying cultural textiles and Nomoli artwork to the adidas Samba and Stan Smith adiFOM Mule.
The SS24 showcase concluded with an extended standing ovation from attendees, including friends, family, and industry insiders, celebrating the designer's triumphant collection.
