Marriage is a partnership, not a split.
Marriage is a partnership, not a split.
In a recent candid video, Gabrielle Union opened up about her evolving view of marriage, explaining that the once-cherished idea of a strict 50/50 split was a concept rooted in past trauma and unrealistic expectations. Speaking with refreshing honesty, Union revealed how she and her husband, Dwyane Wade, have moved away from the notion that every contribution must be equal, choosing instead to embrace a more fluid and authentic dynamic in their relationship.
“There are days I have nothing, and I need him to be 100%,” she shared. “It’s a trauma response. The idea of 50/50 was me avoiding vulnerability, avoiding fully trusting someone with everything. But moving past that has brought us closer.”
This shift in perspective has allowed both partners to create a partnership based on mutual support, respect, and understanding. The contributions ebb and flow rather than being measured in equal halves.
The couple who has been married for 11 years share a daughter, Kaavia, and Union is also stepmother to Wade’s three other children.
