First Album in 15 Years
Erykah Badu has confirmed that she is working on a new studio album, her first in 15 years.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Badu revealed that she is collaborating with The Alchemist on the project, which will be the follow-up to her 2010 album, "New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)." Details about the album are currently limited.
During the interview, Badu also shared her perspective on the current state of hip-hop. "The thing I like about rap right now is the same thing I liked about rap when I first met it," she said. "Rap is the people. Hip-hop is the people. It’s the folks. It’s the tribe." She further explained that she views contemporary artists with a sense of familial connection. "I have the luxury of experiencing having children who I watch grow up and love and encourage very much, and I cannot separate them when I see artists who are that age coming up. That’s how they feel. They are continuing the tradition."
While her last full studio album was released in 2010, Badu did release the mixtape "But You Caint Use My Phone" in 2015, featuring appearances from ItsRoutine and André 3000.
