"The Kitchen" is a dystopian thriller and Daniel Kaluuya's directorial debut. The film, co-directed by Kibwe Tavares, is set to premiere at the 67th annual BFI London Film Festival in October.
The movie will be showcased at the closing night gala event and will have its global debut on October 15 at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. Following the festival, "The Kitchen" will be released in UK cinemas and will also be available on Netflix.
Daniel Kaluuya not only directed the film but also co-wrote it. The cast includes Kane Robinson (known as Kano), Jedaiah Bannerman, Hope Ikpoku Jr, Teija Kabs, Demmy Ladipo, Cristale, and BackRoad Gee. The film is set in a dystopian world, and while the official synopsis hasn't been provided, it promises to be an intriguing and thought-provoking thriller.
The film’s official synopsis reads as follows:
“In a dystopian London, the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits. All forms of social housing have been eradicated and only The Kitchen remains. A community that refuses to move out of the place they call home. This is where we meet a solitary Izi (Robinson), living here by necessity and desperately trying to find a way out, and a 12-year-old Benji (Bannerman), who has lost his mother and is searching for a family. We follow our unlikely pair as they struggle to forge a relationship in a system that is stacked against them.”
Fans of Daniel Kaluuya and dystopian thrillers will likely be eagerly awaiting "The Kitchen" and its premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. The festival begins on October 4 and will run through October 15.
