London designer Bianca Saunders has joined forces with iconic label Farah for a captivating Spring/Summer 2024 menswear collection, drawing inspiration from the world of Jamaican artist and musician, Lee "Scratch" Perry.

Saunders pays homage to Perry's multifaceted artistry, focusing not only on his musical legacy but also on his unique art practice. “Perry was a Jamaican producer and music artist, but he also did artwork, and a lot of his work is based around collages and found objects, and him exploring how to place these objects in a way that makes sense to him,” said Saunders. ”There is a Basquiat approach to his work, but it’s different, being steeped in religion and Jamaican iconography, animal motifs and mottos such as ‘good over evil’.”

Building upon her own Caribbean roots reflected in her menswear designs, Saunders skillfully translates Perry's art into an accessible collection that reflects his uncategorizable creativity.

Teaming up once again with Farah, Saunders delves into the storied label's archive, unearthing timeless casual garments from the '70s and '80s when Perry released his influential tracks. Seamlessly blending her boundary-pushing design approach with Farah's classic silhouettes, Saunders reimagines traditional menswear archetypes for the contemporary wardrobe in the aptly named "Scratch" range.

The 26-piece collection showcases Farah's signature hopsack textile, offering a denim-like appearance with a lightweight construction. Relaxed button-up shirts and trousers in neutral tones exude a laid-back charm, while aqua blue and nutmeg wide-leg trousers feature elastic waistbands for enhanced comfort. Asymmetrical cuts define the oversized vests, contributing to the overall "slouchy style" aesthetic that characterizes the collection.

Chris O'Brien, global head of design at Farah, expresses confidence in Saunders' vision, stating, "[Bianca] manages to blend a concept that is close to her and her brand along with references from Farah's rich archive, utilizing our hopsack fabrication, which is synonymous with our history. We believe in Bianca's vision and wish to continue working with her on these highly creative projects."
