Three-time DPOY returns to launch elite camps and schooling rookies
NFL legend Aaron Donald may be retired, but he’s still making big plays off the field. The former Los Angeles Rams star is back at the team’s facility, this time as a mentor helping young players grow through his AD99 Foundation.
The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is focused on shaping the future of football. His foundation, with the assistance of his wife Erica Donald, is launching an elite lineman camp this July for high school and middle school players. It’s a way for Donald to give back to the sport that made him a star and to make sure the next generation of talent has the tools to succeed.
Donald’s return to Rams camp made headlines recently when rookie Jared Verse, the team’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, tried to “test” the veteran. In a viral moment, Donald took Verse through an intense “old man workout,” proving he’s still got it. Verse quickly admitted, “I tried to test a legend… he responded.” Even head coach Sean McVay joined the fun, joking that Donald face timed him mid-workout while Verse was catching his breath.
Donald mentoring Verse is a full-circle story. Back in 2014, Donald was the Rams’ DPOY. Now, over a decade later, he’s guiding the next one.
The Rams are building for the future after a solid 2024 season, where they finished 10–7. With young stars like Verse stepping up, Donald’s leadership is exactly what the team needs. While he’s made it clear he’s not coming out of retirement to play, his impact is still being felt.
