Osimhen's agent says they reserve the right to take legal action to protect the player.
The situation between Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and the club has become increasingly strained. Osimhen's agent, Roberto Calenda, has threatened to take legal action against Napoli after the club mocked the striker on social media for missing a penalty in a TikTok video.
The video was shared on Napoli's TikTok account and showed Osimhen missing a penalty against Bologna. In response, Osimhen removed nearly all photos of himself wearing a Napoli shirt from his Instagram account. While the offending post has been deleted, Calenda expressed his displeasure and intentions to protect his client.
Calenda stated, "We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor. What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted. A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news."
This incident comes amid existing tensions between Osimhen and Napoli. The 24-year-old Nigerian international, who joined Napoli for a club-record fee in 2020, has been a pivotal player for the club. However, there have been concerns about contract negotiations, with Osimhen's contract set to expire in June 2025. This situation has raised the possibility of his departure in either the January or summer transfer windows.
The strained relationship may also impact Osimhen's participation in Napoli's Serie A match against Udinese. The situation highlights the complexities and challenges that can arise in professional football, involving player-club dynamics, social media, and contractual matters.
