The James family made history on Tuesday night as LeBron James and his son, Bronny, became the first father-son duo to share the court in the NBA. The Lakers' 110-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves marked this historic milestone.
Before stepping onto the court, LeBron offered some words of encouragement to his 20-year-old son, who was making his NBA debut. "Y'all ready? You see the intensity, right? Just play carefree, though," LeBron advised. "Don't worry about mistakes. Just go out and play hard."
LeBron finished the night with 16 points, while Bronny made his presence felt with an early offensive rebound. Although he missed a tip-in and his first NBA jumper, Bronny's brief stint on the court was met with cheers from the crowd. He was ultimately checked out with 1:19 left in the second quarter.
After the game, LeBron reflected on the historic moment, saying, "I talked about it years and years ago, and for this moment to come, it's pretty cool. I don't know if it's going to actually hit the both of us for a little minute, but when we really get to sit back and take it in, it's pretty crazy." Bronny added, "[I] tried not to focus on everything that's going on around me, and tried to focus on going in as a rookie and not trying to mess up. But yeah, I totally did feel the energy, and I appreciate Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad."
LeBron and Bronny join a select group of father-son professional athletes who have played together. 34 years ago, the Griffeys achieved a similar feat when they homered in the same game. The Griffeys were in attendance to witness this historic moment for the James family.
