Nike hosted the 2023 World Basketball Festival in New York City's Lincoln Center over two days, bringing together a diverse group of individuals from former and current athletes to artists and the next generation of basketball players.
The event featured notable attendees such as Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Scottie Pippen, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Sue Bird, Travis Scott, and Lil Yachty, among others. The festival took place at Lincoln Center, a symbolic location for cultural expression and movement.
The highlight of the festival was a two-day tournament featuring 80 of the best high school basketball players, evenly split between girls and boys from 23 states and three countries. This event aimed to showcase the talent of the next generation of basketball players.
Nike's Vice President and General Manager of Nike North America, Scott Uzzell, emphasized the deep connection between basketball and culture, stating, "If running is the heart of Nike, then basketball has always been Nike's soul."
The festival also served as a platform to announce Nike's partnership with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, aiming to provide year-round access to the arts for local young people. Nike is granting $2 million to support various musical and dance programs, benefiting tens of thousands of youths across New York City's five boroughs.
This event celebrated the cultural significance of basketball and its power to bring people together, from athletes and artists to the emerging stars of the sport.
