A Polish game show, "Your Face Sounds Familiar," is facing criticism after a contestant, Kuba Szmajkowski, performed in full blackface and used racial slurs during an episode. The show features celebrities impersonating music icons to raise money for charity. However, Szmajkowski's portrayal of Kendrick Lamar crossed the line.
In the episode, Szmajkowski dressed as Kendrick Lamar with braids, wearing full blackface makeup while performing Lamar's song "HUMBLE." The performance also included backup dancers. At one point, Szmajkowski used a racial slur during the song. Shockingly, Szmajkowski won the second episode of the show's 19th season for this performance and donated his prize money to a children's cancer charity.
The video clip of this controversial performance quickly spread on social media, sparking outrage and condemnation. Many people expressed their anger and disappointment over the inappropriate use of blackface and racial slurs. Some called for Kendrick Lamar to take legal action, while others suggested that there were alternative ways to pay tribute to artists without resorting to blackface.
This incident was not the first time the show has featured such controversial performances, as previous episodes also included celebrities impersonating Black artists in blackface.
