Michelle Obama is stepping back into the podcasting scene but this time, with her older brother, Craig Robinson, by her side. The former First Lady launched a new podcast series called IMO (short for In My Opinion), a video-format podcast that blends personal stories, heartfelt conversations, and high-profile guest appearances.
The new show, produced by Higher Ground, the media company founded by Michelle and former President Barack Obama will take a shift from traditional audio podcasts, to video podcasts.
In the debut episode, Michelle and Craig take viewers on a nostalgic journey, reflecting on their modest childhood home in Chicago. The siblings share personal stories, including Craig’s reflections on lessons learned from his divorce and Michelle’s initial hesitations about her husband’s run for the presidency.
They also honour their late parents, Frasier Robinson III, who passed away in 1991, and Marian Robinson, who passed in May 2023. Their heartfelt tribute brings warmth to the show’s foundation.
The second episode features actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae, discussing the challenges of maintaining friendships in adulthood. Future episodes promise even more star guests, from Seth Rogen, Tracee Ellis Ross, Keke Palmer, and Tyler Perry and many more set to join the conversation.
But it’s not all serious talk, Michelle Obama also shares lighthearted moments, including a surprising revelation: after years of being chauffeured by the Secret Service, she’s just now getting back behind the wheel.
IMO officially launched on Wednesday, March 12, with its first two episodes available to the public. The show will take center stage at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 13, where a live episode will be recorded.
Produced in partnership with Audible (owned by Amazon), the show is backed by major sponsors like Pine-Sol, Theraflu, and Rivian. Each episode is set to run for approximately an hour, offering deep yet engaging discussions.
With IMO, Michelle Obama is bringing thoughtful, unfiltered, and relatable conversations to a new platform, one that feels like an intimate sit-down with an old friend.
